Gene and Dennis D Garland in Washington DC June 1944

Gene and Dennis were the greatest of friends who went through basic training and jump school together. Both were to see service in the European theater, and both were to be wounded in Belgium in January 1944. Gene was shot by a sniper, while Dennis was hit by a “Screaming Meemie”. Although unknown to each other, both were transferred to the same Field Hospital in Luxembourg where Dennis died from his wounds on 06 February 1945.
