Other Information: Samuel McClellan entered into military service in
1943 at Fort Leavenworth Kansas straight from 4 years of High School
and employment as a sales clerk, shortly after his 19th birthday. He
volunteered to join the Parachute Infantry and became a member of
the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment. He was shipped overseas on 22
November 1943 for the 7 day journey to Britain and the European
Theater of Operations. He participated in the invasion of “Fortress
Europa” on June 6th, 1944 sustaining wounds on June 11th. Samuel
continued to serve with the 502nd Parachute Infantry throughout the
war and was finally returned back to the USA on November 30th 1945.
Getting home took rather longer as he arrived back in the USA on
December 21st 1945, just in time for Christmas. However, the final
processing saw him honourably discharged on December 27th 1945.
Samuel returned to his home state where he settled down with his
wife and family.
